Action in a Cake Race match, where a Level 17 player faces off against his Level 62 opponent.

The Cake Race can be accessed by clicking on the icon with a trophy draped with cake frostings and topped off with a cherry. The player is then brought to the menu screen, where they can view their status on a leaderboard which can be compared with other players as well as check their Loot Crates acquired each time they win a round (Read more below). When entering this mode for the first time, a cutscene also plays.

The player can then initiate a round by clicking the "Find Opponent" button. The round takes place in a small portion of a random level, which can be from storyline levels or Sandbox levels. An assortment of parts would be given along with the Dynamite, which is then used to build a contraption that would carry them across to pick up the five cakes situated throughout the level. The Dynamite is the part that must always be present in every round, though it need not be necessarily mounted to the contraption/vehicle itself.

When the player is ready, they may begin by clicking the tick icon just like in normal level gameplay. A time limit which varies across all the different levels is given, and the five cakes are to be collected before the timer strikes zero. Upon which, the Dynamite will explode and the round ends if not all the cakes are collected. If the player does obtain all five cakes before that, the round is regarded as finished and the Dynamite rings and detonates. At the top left corner of the screen, the red manual detonation button for the Dynamite can be tapped to abort the round, though it is only recommended if caught in tough predicaments.

As soon as the round ends, the scores of both the player and his opponent are calculated, taking into consideration the time remaining (Total time minus time taken to collect all cakes), the number of cakes collected, and the Level of the player. The calculation goes as follows:

Level x Time Elapsed x 100 x cakes collected

Two examples are also shown below.

Example 1[]
  • Level 60 player collects all 5 cakes in 25/40 seconds = 1500 (Time remaining x 100) x 5 x 60 = 450000
  • Level 58 opponent collects 4 cakes in 20/40 seconds = 2000 (Time remaining x 100) x 4 x 55 = 464000
  • Winner: Opponent
Example 2[]
  • Level 35 player collects all 5 cakes in 20/50 seconds = 3000 (Time remaining x 100) x 5 x 35 = 525000
  • Level 20 opponent collects all 5 cakes in 30/50 seconds = 2000 (Time remaining x 100) x 5 x 20 = 200000
  • Winner: Player

Typically, a higher level player who collects the cakes faster has the likelihood of beating his opponent, though different players competing in different levels would cause variations in the differences between each other's stats and as a result the same goes for their chances of winning in general.

King Pig's Favorite Item/Part[]

Every time, a speech bubble appears above King Pig who is in the middle of the stands of Pigs who come to watch the races. In the speech bubble a certain part is stated, regarded by the game as his "favorite part" which changes from time to time. While the default part itself is added for every match as something variable in the assortment, a certain variation is chosen as the bonus part, and adding it to the grid and playing with it will result in an additional score bonus of 20%. Like the Dynamite, it need not be placed on the contraption itself for the conditions to be met.

Each loot crate will show the time it takes to open, as well as the sort of loot that may be found inside.

Loot Crates[]

At the end of every round a player wins, a Loot Crate is awarded which varies between all the types except for Gold. Regardless of how well the player mathematically outperforms his opponent in any round, the more valuable crate types are always the rarer ones to get. Four slots for storing the crates, as shown in the menu screen, are available. When a crate is added to a slot, a timer can be started which ticks down, and until it reaches zero, the player cannot open it for free, where they must instead use Snout Coins to quickly do so. Likewise, the rarer and more valuable crates have a longer unlocking timer and higher cost of opening it immediately. The cost decreases as the timer ticks down. If all the slots are occupied, the player must discard the crate or similarly pay Snout Coins to open it on the spot.

During a game of Cake Race, one can see the racetrack, as well as the direction to travel for each cake. Up on top is the player's name and score, the opponent's name and score, and the number of cakes each person has yet to collect. The timer is running, but the car is not carrying the dynamite.

Crate Timer for Unlock (In Hours) Initial Immediate Unlock Cost (In Snout Coins)
Cardboard 2 30
Glass 4 60
Wooden 8 120
Bronze 16 240
Metal 24 360
Marble 28 420

Trivia[]

  • Occasionally, a bot opponent named "Hogster" will be competing against the opponent who has the same level as the player himself. This takes place if no physical opponent is available to challenge at the moment or there is no connection to the server
    • The bot opponent can be forced by interrupting the internet connection just before clicking "find opponent"

The player here has managed to collect all the cakes.

  • The scores when getting a cake and ending a race is higher for high level players.
  • If the dynamite explodes off of the screen, wood particles, screws, and smoke will fly off from that side of the screen.  It will do this regardless if it was in a vehicle or not.
